For augmented woodwind ensemble. 2019. The mubone adapted for clarinet.
Written over a semester as composer-in-residence with the NYU New Music Ensemble. The piece starts from spacetime: three dimensions of space plus one of time. Sensors on the players' bodies and instruments let them move processed sound through both.
In I. Space, the instrumentalists' sounds are geotagged as they play, so each player paints a virtual playground to improvise in. II. Event splits the work between two performers, one triggering sounds and one choosing them. III. Time uses granular synthesis to make a constellation of tiny sounds that the performer can twist and stretch.
